ABSTRACT

(+)

TLDR

L’air de Algues is a sustainable beauty line designed to harness CO2 and algae residue to create long-lasting, skin-enhancing products. Developed during a 24-hour design sprint, the project focuses on circularity by repurposing CO2 and algae through scalable photobioreactors.

Extensive research into algae cultivation, beauty benefits, and fragrance development led to the creation of gender-neutral, eco-friendly products that avoid harmful chemicals and wasteful packaging. The final design features refillable capsules and recycled glass bottles, ensuring the product line not only reduces environmental impact but also sets a new standard for sustainability in the beauty industry.

LOOKING BACK

Working on L’air de Algues was such an exciting and eye-opening experience. It gave me the chance to bring together two things I deeply care about: sustainability and beauty. I’ve always been passionate about the idea that the beauty industry can do more to care for the planet, and this project showed me how design can actually make that happen.

The 24-hour design sprint was intense but incredibly rewarding. It pushed me to think on my feet, collaborate closely with my team, and make quick decisions without losing sight of our goals. Diving into the science of algae and CO2 harvesting was fascinating and gave me a whole new perspective on how sustainability can be woven into product design.

This project didn’t just challenge me—it inspired me. It made me realize how much I want to keep exploring ways to create meaningful, eco-friendly solutions in the beauty and fragrance space. Being part of such a creative and driven team was an honor, and I’m so grateful for the experience of turning a bold idea into something that feels truly impactful.
